New Community Blogsite

I guess these are bobbing up all over the Blogosphere. I've been active at a number of sites including WritingUp, BloggerParty, BlogFeast and Blogevolve. In reality there are hundeds more - but those are the ones I've chosen to write for.

WritingUp and BlogFeast have had their problems - I think often related to the high popularity of the site and the inability of the server, and adminstration to manage the growth. In any case both those sites have been offline for some time. BlogEvolve has been deserted by the Administration - such that splog and other unwanted material keeps bobbing up on it.

Most bloggers like to interact to some degree with the Administration so it was with great excitement to learn of this other site. Called Communati - and pronounced in the same was as one would say "community"

It is relatively new - with an active Admin - and any queries are responded to very quickly, so it should be a good site to learn from as well.

What a name! Purple Crayon Brain. I must say I find the name somewhat challenging. But in the world of blogging you choose our own username and it really doesn't matter. This fellow is a poet - and writes amazing stuff for sites such as BlogFeast and BlogEvolve, but also has his own site where he does illustrations for his poems.

He's used Bloger - and shown that you can create a busy and worthwhile site with Blogger.

Baghdad Burning

I first heard about this Blog when it was short listed for a book prize - and the Blog received much publicity at the time. I do call by and read it occasionally. I suspect the woman who writes the Blog was a supporter of Saddam Hussein - she's certainly no fan of the United States and is often recording the abuses that many Iraqis are suffering.

There is no indication of her name - and it is not possible to put comments on her site, but you can send an e-mail. The last entry she made was on February 20th, and the previous one on December 31st.

The last one details the story of an Iraqi woman who was raped by police in Iraq. Unusually she came out with the story. It is quite horrific.

Certainly there is much criticism of the US - the atrocities that have occurred including the brutality by the Americans in the prison there.

The Blogger believes that more terrorists have been created by the actions of the US invaders than Osama Bin Laden could have done.

Life for this Blogger and her people must be horrific. I cannot imagine living in such conditions. I wish that some peace and tranquility settle on Iraq.

Lizzie's Blog

Elizabeth is a friend of mine - and I have cared for her house, and she has stayed with me whilst I was doing a house sit. Lizzie has started her own Blogsite. She travels around Asia teaching about Christianity - and is about to travel to the Phillipines to teach for several weeks starting her journey next week. She will endeavour to update her Blog while she is away.

I hope she does - she's good writer and will no doubt have some interesting stories to tell.

Another great site - The Gerbera Association

I've found another great website - very interesting to me as I have a deep interest in Gerbera Flowers. This site is The Gerbera Association, and it is based in South Africa, in Barberton. The history of the gerbera is very interesting, but once again there is reference to red gerbera coming from Tasmania. I wrote to the Tasmanian Botanical Gardens a couple of years ago, because of references to gerberas being native to Tasmania. It didn't make sense to me - the climate surely is not suitable for gerberas. The Botanical Gardens wrote back saying there is no information/evidence of gerberas coming from Tasmania.

On The Gerbera Association website it again talks about gerberas from Tasmania, so I have sent an email asking for more information or confirmation about the historical connection to Tasmania. We will see.

It is a good site though - The Gerbera Association.

Those of you who know me know that I choose to house sit around South East Queensland. I pick and choose which house I will go to - and I'm currently at one of my favourites on Lamb Island. Lamb is one of a group of four islands that include Macleay, Russell, Karragarra and of course Lamb Island. There's two ways to get to the islands - fly by helicopter if you are lucky to have one and by boat. No boat? Luckily a ferry service fromt he mainland Redland Bay services these islands on a very regular basis. - in fact Mondays to Fridays there are some 47 services I think, and most ferries are full on many of their trips.

As well there are bus services from Brisbane City, Mt Gravatt, Shailer Park, and various other local spots so it is pretty easy to get to the islands.

Gerberas

Our family is in the Gerbera growing business. I won't explain it all here, as you can go to another site and read all about our experiences. It is a flower that has gained increasing popularity and is one of the most popular cut flowers in the world today with growers in all continents.
They are fairly easy to grow plants - given the right conditions, and whilst I have some at home in pots scattered around a rather unkempt garden, they grow best in hot houses - where there is better control over the conditions. Many are grown hydroponically, as ours are, and this way it is easy to control the nutrients and water flow to the plants. To learn more click here. The photo on the left is of one of my favourite flowers. We no longer grown that variety in the hot house but I do have two wonderful plants at home. I use this photo on my business card.

Bloghopping.

Here goes. This blog has resulted from an idea from Aussie Sire - a bloke from Adelaide (my old home town) posted on BlogFeast - a popular community blogsite.
He has some great things on his site - though the games do not interest me.

There is so much to learn about Blogging and making money and he has quite a lot of great information on his site - which he updates regularly.

I recommend joining BlogFeast too - it is a free site. So go back a few words and lick on the joining link. BF is a blogsite where you can join in the community and with regular posting and commenting, and learning the ropes, you can start to earn good money from your Blogs. It is a very friendly site. We don't tolerate sploggers, and porn stuff though.
